This entry will be brief for me as my heart has been elsewhere today. You may have noticed in my first post that I am/was (we’ll see) planning on travelling to New Jersey this weekend, but what I failed to mention is that I am originally from Monmouth County, NJ, right on the shore where Hurricane Sandy chose to land last night. Unfortunately, I have several family members and friends dealing first-hand with devastation to their homes. I am SO grateful that they heeded evacuation warnings and are all safe, but I can’t even begin to wrap my head around the damage left in my hometown, with so many of my childhood landmarks and memories washed away. Please pray for everyone affected by Sandy; this is just another reason, along with the SNAP challenge, to acknowledge how truly blessed most of us are.
My breakfast was the same as yesterday: 1 egg and ¼ cup of egg whites. Cost: $0.38.
Lunch: 1 can of tuna ($0.90) + 1 cucumber ($0.65). Cost: $1.55.
Dinner: Chicken topped with a bit of blue cheese and a cauliflower/broccoli/carrot medley (I should’ve mentioned to other challengers earlier that there was a fresh steam bag, not frozen, with these veggies on sale at Publix for $1.00 on Sunday, and there are a LOT of veggies in there. I ate 1/2 the bag for $0.50 and it was way more veggies than I normally eat with a meal!) Cost: $1.91.
Total Daily Cost: $3.84.
Jersey Strong <3

Allison, so sorry to hear about your hometown. I’ll keep your folks in my thoughts and prayers.
Allison reminds all of us that a disaster can hit anywhere, absolutely anywhere and at any time. While our brave SNAP Challengers are pushing through what they know is only a few days, many may be facing this challenge for weeks! Be mindful of this during this time as we also donate to our “Best Class Food Drive” Harvest Hope Food Bank is the designated food bank for disaster relief for all shelters. Just more food for thought.
Allison, we will keep you, your family, and all the victims from hurricane Sandy in our thoughts and prayers. Take comfort in the support you have through the Pro Bono Program and the law school.
